Each of the following pieces of equipment will be used when you make your homemade wine:

  • Plastic pail (7-gallon size) with a lid that fits tightly, creating a seal – known as the primary fermenter and an air lock that fits it
  • Glass Carboy (6-gallon size) – known as the secondary fermenter
  • Rubber bung designed to fit the air lock and the glass carboy
  • Siphon hose and clip
  • Long-handled spoon
  • Hydrometer
  • Potassium metabisulfite
  • Acid test kit (for wine made from fresh fruit only)
  • Nylon straining bag (for wine made from fresh fruit only)
  • Wine bottles and corks to fit them

Homemade Wine Making with Yeast

Quite a few recipes are available that show you how to make homemade wine quite simply with just a few ingredients and even fewer pieces of equipment. Combining sugar, water, fruit concentrate and yeast in a gallon jug container fitted with a large balloon is all you need to mix up a quick batch of wine that will be ready in only six weeks. Search the Internet or bookstore for recipes that you can use to create your own flavorful wine.
