Are You Really Where You Want to Be?

I had a revelation as I was driving home from an appointment this morning. I was thinking of a coaching client of mine who has made great progress but was still struggling with doing things that needed to be done in order for him to achieve his goals. As I was thinking of him, I was also thinking that this is quite common with most people, including myself at times.
So why is that? This is the question I was pondering when I had my "aha" moment. The reason we have difficulty achieving our dreams is because the person who got us where we are today is the same person who will get us in the same position six months from now, one year from now, etc. We can put the different tasks in front of us and attempt to do them. However, in a few hours or a few days we will revert back to the person we really are and we will stop. Our goals will only be partially attempted and we will still be only dreaming of the life we really want.
However, in order to get the life we really want we need to change who we really are! This can be somewhat scary. I am sure you have heard the sayings "I am what I am" or "this is who I am and I can't change that". Well these are just excuses and if you want to be in this same spot five years from now, just keep believing them. If you do not, then it is about time you make some real, everlasting changes.
I know that you can change who you are, you have done it many times in your life already. We all have. When you were younger you were a student who may have focused on school, sports or your social life. As you grew older, you changed your focus. You started to work and maybe started a family. In each of these areas in your life you were someone else. In fact, many people are one person at work, someone different with their family and somebody else entirely with their friends.
So let us look at that elusive goal and how you can actually obtain it this time.
- Take a few minutes to answer the following questions.
- What do I really want?
- Why do I really want this?
- How will my life change because of this?
- Do I really want my life to change in these ways?
If you answered yes to number four then you can move on. If you answered no, then you need to look at changing your goal. There is no reason for you to try to achieve a goal that is going to affect areas of your life in what you perceive to be a negative manner.
- When you have finished the above exercise and are able to answer yes to question number four, then you are ready to move on to the next step in manifesting your dreams.
- Take a sheet of paper and write whatever comes to mind when answering the following questions.
- As a person who has goal, I currently do the following tasks on a regular basis to achieve this goal.
- As a person who has goal, I currently feel the following as I am completing tasks to achieve this goal.
There is nothing that has not already been achieved by someone. Take a look around you; go to the library or do a Google search. Someone somewhere has achieved what you are wanting in your life.
You are an incredible human being and you actually have access to all of the universal knowledge that everyone else does. You can accomplish anything you set your mind to. The key is setting your mind to accomplishing it. Instead of setting your mind to just doing what you have always been doing.
You can achieve anything you would like to if you are determined enough to develop the skill sets required to accomplish it. Try not to put a time limit on your dream. Time is not relative to the act of manifesting our dreams and goals. Everything will happen at the appropriate time. Your job is just to keep developing the next skill level and accomplishing the next task. If you keep moving forward in this manner, you will always find the pot of gold at the end of your rainbow.
