Take a “Me” Day and Play Hooky from Life

The importance of taking a “me” day and playing hooky from life should never be understated. Its worth is far more valuable than other strategies that people take to relax and rebalance their emotional and physical state of being. “Me” days are just as important as sick days. Taking one to recharge your mental health status is just as healing as taking a sick day to get over being physically ill. Of course, it may be best to request a “personal day” off from work so you can indulge in “me time” without putting your job in jeopardy or leaving your co-workers hanging.
It’s a Day When the World Revolves Around You.
A “me” day is a time when you give yourself permission not to do anything of importance at all – except to take your medication and take care of bodily functions. It’s a time to have fun, do something unusual, tackle an item on your bucket list, or clear your mind from every thought that you currently find troubling. You don’t have to answer the phone, worry about deadlines, pay bills, clean the house, wash the car, or do anything else that adds stress to your life.
Play Hooky from Life and Its Challenges
Give yourself permission not to feel guilty that you are taking a day just for yourself. Your daughter can find someone else to babysit the grandchildren. The school can get a substitute in for the day. Your boss can put your tasks on hold or find someone else to take responsibility for them. The phone can stay unanswered and so can the emails. The flowers can get watered tomorrow, the trash can be taken out by someone else, and the family can fend for themselves for dinner. Today is about you, your pleasure, and your relaxation. Nothing else matters – at least for these 16 hours (assuming you are going to get 8 hours of sleep).
While it is important to follow your routine, going to work day in and day out, it isn’t going to harm you mentally or physically to take a day off. Just do what you want to do for this one “me” day. Tomorrow can be the first day of the rest of your life, and you’ll be able to approach it with a new sense of emotional balance and a rejuvenated spirit that has you feeling and acting more focused and more productive.
Recharge Your Energy
Taking a day off just for yourself to do things you enjoy is a great way to recharge the battery that keeps you energized for your daily responsibilities. Think of it in terms of the rechargeable batteries that you can purchase for use in all sorts of electronic devices. Your energy is similar to one of those batteries. Generally, you can recharge it by getting the proper amount of rest, eating nutritious foods, and exercising a couple times a week. Eventually, though, even rechargeable batteries begin to show signs of fatigue. For people, taking a day off from the rat race can give their batteries that extra boost they need to keep going at an optimal rate.
